I know why you are so scared.
Hiya,
Do you know what's wrong, what’s not working, but have no idea what to do about it?
That's the space you're in. Not stuck exactly. Not moving either.Somewhere between knowing this isn't working and not knowing what would.
You read most of these emails. You nod along. Then you close the mail tab and go back to doing what you where doing because thinking about the thing is scary, and uncertain.
I know. I know.
I lived in that space for years. Not a metaphor. Actual years, in Perth, watching our business stall, watching our son be unwell, and somewhere underneath it all, knowing Melbourne might be the answer.
I could not see one single way to get there. We were lifelong Perthers, both in our fifties. Aging parents, family, friends. A husband who found Melbourne dark and cold and had no interest in going back.
[The overwhelm wasn't loud. It was more like static.Every direction blocked before I'd even tried it. I felt sick thinking about Melbourne as a possibility]
I didn't need more information. I had plenty. What I didn't have was a plan, and the commitment to action steps. What I did have, in spades, was fear, and a story about who I was allowed to be.
A business coach said the thing that finally moved me. If you keep on wishing and hoping without a plan, nothing changes, and if you don’t make a move, you might as well not made a plan.
Uncomfortable as hell. Also true.
So here's what I'm actually asking you to do if you are still reading this email.
Get a piece of paper. Doesn't matter if it's your business, your life, or your family. Write down one thing that isn't working, big or little, whatever you feel is scary but you can cope seeing. The one that feels too big to say out loud.
That's it. That's the whole ask. Pick one thing.
If you want to send it to me, hit reply, and I’m happy to respond if you want. If a chat feels okay, you can book one. If neither, having it on paper instead of in your head is already something, it makes it more real.
Without reality checks and action, in 12 months you will be looking back, still in the same position and a year older.
You can do it, can’t wait to get your message.
Mel x
